Philly Front Office

Talking about front office moves for the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers. Sports contracts are obviously soooo exciting that writing about them every day at www.phillyfrontoffice.com just isn’t enough!

The Phillies are being lead into their playoff push by Alec Bohm and Aaron Nola. Some people out there said some pretty mean things about these two over the last 4 months...but we aren't here to talk about the past! The important thing is that they are performing now and we should do absolutely nothing to diminish the chips on their should toward their critics. No apologies!
Plus...
Phillies sign Nestor Cortes
Eagles hold joint practices with the Patriots
Flyers sign some guys I don't know anything about
Sixers have a new voice in the front office

Why can't I quit the Phillies? I totally get why people are jumping off the bandwagon. They stink and are infuriating. Plus, giving up and getting mad that people who don't is a great defense mechanism. Mine is to get mad while they play, get bitter afterwards, then wake up and think of how annoying the 2022 Phillies were before going on their run. To each his own.
Plus, I talk about teams moving to get better stadiums, Field of Dreams, the Sixers schedule, and what to look for over the last 3 weeks of Eagles camp.

The Trade Deadline is now a week in the rear view and the fears that the Phillies didn't do enough have been verified. Turning the roster into a pretzel to accommodate Alec Bohm has also gone predictably poorly. That being said, I never want Luis Arraez to leave.
It isn't all Phillies though as Lane Johnson of the Eagles says this will probably be his final season.
Serenity now, serenity now...LeBron James, LeBron James.

The Sixers kept the positivity train going this week by signing KCP and maybe more importantly, getting rid of Johni Broome, the worst player in NBA history (probably). The Eagles made it even better by not only just returning to our lives, but signing Jalen Carter to a massive (yet cap courteous) extension. Thankfully, this was enough to get us through a not-literal-but close funeral in Miami for the Phillies on Wednesday. They are going to try to Bernie Lomax this thing to the finish line, but...yikes! Somehow this got me talking about the looming baseball labor issues.

LeBron James signed with the Sixers today and continued the total public perception overhaul of the team. We are now firmly on the basketball map. The Sixers aren’t all though. The Eagles still rule the city with stars everywhere. The Phillies have a trade deadline coming up where they need to re-establish themselves. Don’t count out the Flyers either, they are sleeping giants
SIXERS
Breaking down the LeBron James contract because it is phenomenal
Mike Gansey is flexing
FLYERS
Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale are coming back for 4 years
Danny Briere has $14m in cap space and is loaded with tradeable assets
PHILLIES
Phillies needs at the trade deadline
Draft pick signings (posted juuuuust before Tyler Spangler signed)
THIS DAY IN HISTORY...
2015 – Cole Hamels throws a no hitter in his last start then gets traded
2009 – Cliff Lee from Cleveland
2010 – Roy Oswalt from Houston
2011 – Phillies and Eagles going at it with Hunter Pence and Nnamdi Asoumgha (LOL)

The Flyers are running it back, the Sixers are still in the hunt for LeBron James, the Phillies need help, and it's July so people are finding reasons to get mad about the Eagles. All that being said, I want to talk about the Mile World Record attempt that's going down in London on Saturday.

It's not like it's hard to rank the guys who call the shots for out teams.
Howie Roseman is in a class by himself as maybe the best decision maker in sports. Like a pitcher with 5 elite offerings, there is nothing he doesn't do well.
Danny Briere was the patient one until put his balls on the table for Leo Carlsson. All of a sudden he is looking much better
Mike Gansey just came out with a haymaker, even if we don't know who he is yet, we all like him
Dave Dombrowski on the other hand is a one trick pony who knows how to make trades and that's it.  Everything else is hope and lighting money on fire.

Famous last words, right? I don't care. The Sixers traded for Jaylen Brown in one of the most shocking bits of sports news I can remember. How shocking? Well, I go through some of my personal favorites of the last 20 or so years when the 24/7 media schedule and star reporters make rumors regular and surprise more and more endangered. Plus, the rest of the news...
FLYERS
Extension season for Foerster and Vladar
Captain Giroux coming back?
EAGLES
Cooper DeJean...safety?
Jalen Carter at the DT market
PHILLIES
Bullpen...please!!!
Tommy Pham?
SIXERS
Jaylen Brown!!!
Dean Wade (I'm pretty sure I called him just Dean in this for some reason, I need a co-host), Anfernee Simons, and Ariel Hukporti
LeBron James???

I recorded this originally on Friday, but then it disappeared. That worked out nicely though considering so much happened in the last few days including the Myles Garrett to the Rams trade just a few minutes before I went live. While I get into the Post June 1 of it all, this week's feature is the labor negotiations in Major League Baseball as well as lottery reform in the NBA. I'm very bullish on both.
