Well, that was a hell of a last hour! The Sixers announced Ariel Hukporti ruptured his Achillies Tendon, the Phillies signed Dave Dombrowski to a lifetime contract, and Lane Johnson just retired. What the hell???
All that, plus me talking about the importance of Curt Flood on the anniversary of his trade to the Phillies that changed the baseball world...eventually.

Congratulations Jalen Hurts. Welcome back Zach Ertz. Happy Birthday to Gritty. Now that all the happiness is out of the way, the Phillies are in their final stretch of the season and desperately need to win two of their final games because they aren't getting much help from the Diamondbacks, though they do end their season against the Padres in a series that could determine our fate.

All of the major pro sports and player's unions sent a letter to gambling regulators throughout the country today to criticize their inability to regulate player safety concerning angry gamblers. It was a laughably tone-deaf response from an industry that has accepted an insane amount of money to plaster gambling lines and advertisements literally everywhere you consume sports. How is gambling any different than drinking or smoking? Why are we cautioned to not do any of these activities in excess but they can advertise it without any type of moderation? That letter is hypocritical bullshit. 
I get mad about the lack of reporting around the Eagles too because I was on a roll.

There is not a whole lot of news this week for the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, and Sixers, but that doesn't mean there is no news at all to talk about. The Kawhi Leonard Clippers fiasco checks all my boxes as a sports business fan: CBA talk, salary cap circumvention, and the legal process!! Oh, baby! I break the whole thing down and am way too excited doing it.

The big news of the week is the Eagles 53 man roster. I waited to record until we knew the practice squad situation because with most of the roster battles set between the lower level guys, who would stick around was the real story. As for everyone else, I give an update on the salary cap and spending situations for the Flyers, Sixers, and Phillies for the next two years. If you like numbers, I got numbers!

The Phillies are being lead into their playoff push by Alec Bohm and Aaron Nola. Some people out there said some pretty mean things about these two over the last 4 months...but we aren't here to talk about the past! The important thing is that they are performing now and we should do absolutely nothing to diminish the chips on their should toward their critics. No apologies!

Why can't I quit the Phillies? I totally get why people are jumping off the bandwagon. They stink and are infuriating. Plus, giving up and getting mad that people who don't is a great defense mechanism. Mine is to get mad while they play, get bitter afterwards, then wake up and think of how annoying the 2022 Phillies were before going on their run. To each his own.
Plus, I talk about teams moving to get better stadiums, Field of Dreams, the Sixers schedule, and what to look for over the last 3 weeks of Eagles camp.

The Trade Deadline is now a week in the rear view and the fears that the Phillies didn't do enough have been verified. Turning the roster into a pretzel to accommodate Alec Bohm has also gone predictably poorly. That being said, I never want Luis Arraez to leave. 
It isn't all Phillies though as Lane Johnson of the Eagles says this will probably be his final season.

The Sixers kept the positivity train going this week by signing KCP and maybe more importantly, getting rid of Johni Broome, the worst player in NBA history (probably). The Eagles made it even better by not only just returning to our lives, but signing Jalen Carter to a massive (yet cap courteous) extension. Thankfully, this was enough to get us through a not-literal-but close funeral in Miami for the Phillies on Wednesday. They are going to try to Bernie Lomax this thing to the finish line, but...yikes! Somehow this got me talking about the looming baseball labor issues.

LeBron James signed with the Sixers today and continued the total public perception overhaul of the team. We are now firmly on the basketball map. The Sixers aren’t all though. The Eagles still rule the city with stars everywhere. The Phillies have a trade deadline coming up where they need to re-establish themselves. Don’t count out the Flyers either, they are sleeping giants
